The sports industry, especially the world of professional tennis, has so much to offer and yet is unique in many ways. Working with elite athletes involves much more than just teaching them how to hit forehands and backhands. It’s about maximising their potential and enhancing their performance by developing key areas, e.g. the technical, tactical, physical and mental skill set. Social skills such as motivation, discipline, resilience, assertiveness, tenacity, amongst others play a crucial role when it comes to success or failure in elite sports. The entire team around the athlete works towards one goal: Achieving top performance when the stakes are high.
The corporate world is extremely similar to the world of professional sports. Mats has developed multiple ways of implementing his experience and methods into the corporate world. From executive trainings to workshops and seminars over to keynote speeches, employee recruitment and development, pep talks (feedback talks), Mats supports his clients in choosing the necessary measures and application models that are of paramount influence for obtaining outlined goals and thus support the overall company strategy.
Sports and performance have always played a major role in Mats’ life.
Since 2007 Mats has been working with some of the best athletes in the world of tennis, traveling with them and their teams, supporting them
in maximising their potential.
From August 2007 to December 2015 he worked as a lead consultant for the Global Sports Marketing tennis division of adidas as an integral part of the so called “adidas player development program”. The program was a unique establishment offering complementary services such as coaching, mentoring, career-planning amongst many other services to globally contracted athletes.
The experience after having worked with players such as Caroline Wozniacki, Ana Ivanovic, Andy Murray, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Fernando Verdasco, Grigor Dimitrov, Dominic Thiem has helped Mats become the coach and person he is today. Several of the aforementioned athletes hired Mats in addition privately, to further benefit from his skills and abilities.
Since the beginning of 2016 Mats has been spearheading scouting and identifying talent on behalf of adidas GSM, where he is on the lookout for athletes with the relevant skills and marketing potential. This selection process is of paramount importance since the signed-on athletes shall soon become top performers and brand ambassadors.
Moreover, Mats has been acting as a direct contact on the professional tennis tour on behalf of adidas GSM since the beginning of 2019, building new and growing existing relationships with professional athletes and other key partners and manage those throughout the year, representing adidas GSM tennis at key events and therefore offering a consistent presence.
Since the beginning of 2018 Mats has branched out into a different but at the same time similar work field acting as a speaker, offering keynotes and workshops on various topics to companies in the corporate world. He transfers his experience and innovative methods from elite sports. Together with Robert van de Velde, one of the best consultants in the corporate business, they are offering state-of-the-art solutions for all kind of corporate companies.
